One of the most culturally rich cities one could ever hope to visit in the United States is Elpaso. It is uniquely situated on the western tip of Texas and lies on the Mexican border, and neighbors the city of Juárez. Together they form the largest international metroplex in the world. A metroplex is a vast metropolitan area that encompasses several cities and their suburbs. Elpaso, together with the surrounding cities is often referred to as The Borderland.
The City of Elpaso is extremely old, dating back to 1598 and a great example of seamless cultural blends and a mixture of old and new styles.
Elpaso is known for its many annual events that include the Sunland $800,000 Derby, the Elpaso Marathon, El Grito de Dolores (Mexican Independence Day) and the KLAQ International Ballon Fest. The balloon fest is a must see for any and everyone as more than 75 hot air balloons are launched during the month of May. It takes place in a ‘water park’ with amazing rides and live rock music all day long.
Traveling inside Elpaso is relatively easy. One could make use of the bus system, called Sun Metro. They cover most of the city and will get a visitor close to any of the memorable sites. There is also a fair amount of car rental companies and the other option is using a taxi service. You can choose from Budget, Avis, Hertz, Alamo, and Thrifty. Reserving cheap car rental in El Paso is a great idea since they come with air conditioning and it can become extremely hot in El Paso.
